We don’t rise to the occasion we fall to the level of our training.

Quote that has been used a number of times to get people thinking they should ‘train more’ but I’m going to come at from a different angle.
You absolutely need to train. You can’t read a book on how to play hockey and immediately be able to…play….hockey.
My angle is about the rise to the occasion idea. How does anyone ‘rise’ to the occasion? In your training when you get comfortable and you know it front to back….go back to it and make yourself…uncomfortable.
You know this slide in your presentation perfectly but try and get it across while playing a song you hate. Have someone try and interrupt you. Close your eyes.
There are so many times in a persons life that we are 'forced' to be uncomfortable. Break ups, losing job, health, family issues, the list goes on and on but when you train yourself to BE uncomfortable you will have the muscle memory of resiliency. With that muscle you will have the feeling of rising to the occasion but it will really be 'been there....done that.'
