No, not going to write a review of the Francis Ford Coppola movie with a young Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Matt Dillon and others...you young folk check it out. Think it holds up fairly well.

I am writing about industries and their reluctancy to look 'outside' for employees.
They are scared because they will have to 'train' the employee on industry knowledge but if this candidate is successful in another industry why wouldn't they be better at absorbing knowledge?
Cultural Fit. Sometimes there is reluctancy on bringing someone in who might not fit the 'culture' of the industry.
The old 'who do you know?' tired old line. "Have you worked with so and so?" Blah blah blah. If the person is qualified and is able to have relationships elsewhere why wouldn't they be able to do it in this industry?
Unconscious bias can also play a role. Hiring managers might hold biases against candidates from outside their industry due to stereotypes or assumptions about their abilities.
Can not change. People will not listen to a new voice especially one from outside their 'own.' Bunch of crap.
Ultimately anyone unwilling to take a chance on someone outside of their industry comes from a place of fear and bias. There are many reasons to be slightly tentative on bringing someone in from the outside but truly if the candidate is qualified then don't be so scared. You might be surprised if you hire an 'outsider'.
