Media has gone from sparse to abundant in the blink of eye. Not so long ago we all wanted more music, movies, shows, radio stations, magazines, newspapers....so now we have content, content, content. Can't get enough...we have to consume.
Our media fridge is bursting at the seams. We have to throw away some of this food it's past it's expiry date. Traditional media took a trip to the green bin but we still kept consuming yet in smaller and smaller bites. We keep tricking ourselves that we are all on a media diet by taking 'just a little nibble here' and a 'little nibble there' and before we knew it we all ended up buying larger belts.
So who cares you say?
Well, when you are at an all you can eat buffet you start to lose the taste of good food you look at volume versus value.
Our increased media consumption has distracted us from truly delectable dishes. Don't get me wrong...the opportunities are endless to be creative or create content(even great content at times) but the staying power of great pieces are as good as a pizza in a college dorm. With the amount of media we consume we are de valuing the flavour of 'the good stuff.' When you are hungry and you have a great meal your taste buds really savour every morsel. When you are full but you still have a bowl of chocolate covered almonds in front of you...you're still going to eat it but it will never taste as good as the first few. Also, our dietary intake of media is atrocious....but that's for another article.

What's the answer?
Unfortunately there is no definitive answer other than if you are 'creating' anything put thought and work into it so that it has the opportunity to stay longer than that pizza in the dorm is available to others. Build on your own ideas or other 'good ideas' as the saying goes 'stand on the shoulder of giants'. Creativity is like cooking...lots of ingredients for flavour and there's ALWAYS a recipe that can guide you. Make your own but use what's out there.
You have an opportunity on many platforms to create something good(healthy for the brain) so if there's a shot to feed someone who is hungry for something more than empty calories...get your chef on and get cooking!
