Now Kanye's tune is great
but what's not great is when someone in your work environment has this mentality. The inability to work without having some sort of 'wall' up.
A friend of mine told me a story about a sales rep that called a client a really, really....really bad word (you can allow yourself to go to a dark place on that word).
Why you ask? Was it because this client was an awful person? Did she harm someone? Did she abuse animals? No.
Why?
Well....it's because she didn't book ads with him. Whaaaattt????? How dare she?
What happened after they got off the phone? That rep threw a fit openly in the office. I would've loved to seen it for my very own eyes but I can only imagine. (AAArrghhhh!!!....f**k this!....this is bulls**t!!!....)
Why?

Immature is almost too easy a word...I'll go with privileged.
There are many people in many industries that believe everything should 'fall into place' and when it doesn't the stomping of feet, cussing and maybe even cereal begins to fly! You probably know a few folks like this and maybe are working a couple right now.
Why is this?
Not every immature, weak....and let's face it...sad...person would do this but there are so many that would feel like 'why didn't I get that deal?' or 'I deserve this!'
The reason is...they suffer from historical rumination.
Spending an excessive amount of time thinking of one's glorious past.
"Back in the day...used to be like this...they used to love me......by the way....STAY OFF MY LAWN!!!" They become relics of their past.

These thoughts and practices are...gone.
Don't rely on what was. Rely on now. The only thing that matters is what you're doing at this very moment. This includes your clients. Your clients might remember a few things but ultimately they are concerned with what is happening in their world right now and to be honest the only person who cares about your past is.....you.
So why would you expect them to actually care what happened years ago or even months ago?Your ego is the enemy and the bigger your ego is...the bigger the wall is for you to climb. You will never ever get to a fulfilled place in any industry by living in the shadows of the past.

I don't know what became of the rep who threw the fit but don't go down that path. Take what's in front of you...deal with it...ignore how great you were before...and you will succeed and be way happier in work and life.
