I used to have great discussions with a close friend of mine but we could go for long stretches of saying absolutely nothing and be ok with it.

We didn't have to fill the air with...words. We could just....be.

There's many ways to view this type of behaviour but my term was called 'the wait out.' He used to laugh at the term but then realized...it works!

When something happens it doesn't always have to be met with action. There is a term called 'action bias' which is "look active even if it achieves nothing."

The need for doing something sometimes overshadows the need for doing...nothing. More often than not the outcome is the same.

Our society has become too reliant on honouring people for reacting instead of waiting and thinking.

Inaction has become a form of 'not caring'....which is absolutely not true.

There should be more emphasis on waiting for the good of your company, your relationship, your surroundings...almost everything.

There is huge amount of value in a wait and see strategy then there is in rash decisions yet we still hold some in high regards for quick decisions that might or might not be successful.

Before anyone tries to debunk this i'm not speaking about extremes like something is on fire, catching someone, moving out of the way, etc, etc. I'm speaking/writing about some work and some life decisions.

Some might say 'shows 'thinking on your feet'...does it? Does it really? Or does it show that we can't sit and think quietly until we have a clear view of what we should do next?

So next time you feel like you need to react immediately....'wait it out.'
