The Velvet Glove. Definition of 'velvet glove' - gentleness or caution, often concealing strength or determination (esp in the phrase an iron fistorhand in a velvet glove)

I've been told in the past that i've been 'gentle' or 'soft' with the way I've led people. That never offended me because I knew the results. I did, however, think...'why did some think that?' So, I decided to do some introspective digging into myself. What I found was that a majority of people want 'stern' or shall I say/type 'more' direction even if they say they are an 'individual' or want to be 'left alone' so they can accomplish their tasks.
This was a very interesting discovery because I did believe what people told me. "I know what I'm doing! I don't need someone telling me what to do!"
When I truly realized this was when I got...older. Damn old. Some people don't actually understand what they want to do because no one is telling them what to do.
Stern leaders often dictate immediate results based on the brashness of their personality but is it sustainable? Probably not (see most coaches in any sport). Also, there is fine nuance to understanding that a team is made up of individuals with individual personalities and they are....human! Yes! We can't coddle everyone's emotions but we can be cognizant that speech, body language, and genuine empathy can increase an individuals desire to succeed.
Actually....COVID was another interesting experiment in this study....done by...myself.
People had this overwhelming amount of time to themselves (at home) and couldn't figure out what to do!!!???
Has anyone actually thought about that? Truly...have you thought about why you would even think that you have more time for yourself but it frustrates you?
Leaders are meant to lead people in a common direction but it's up to you as an individual to find out what your direction is...for you. Delegating tasks might have caused us (as a society) to be watered down in our thought process of 'what do we want?'

How you handle your steps in this journey and recalling what ones you are good at is just as important as filling your time in this thing called...life.
Taking direction is always going to be part of some aspect of your life and business but remember that you are an individual and if someone provides you with the breadth of being able to do something without too much direction. Feel honoured.
